With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s time to give some of that comic book love to one of the three remaining legacy publishers going since the Golden Age. Let’s talk about Archie Comics and places where you can read endless Archie Comics for almost free.
First off, let’s talk about Hoopla, a fantastic platform for sampling comics and graphic novels. It’s a digital library that thousands of local libraries across the United States have connected with. Every week, they add the latest releases from major publishers, including Archie.
They constantly rotate special features and publishers. It was nice to see Hoopla do an Archie focus called “Love and Happiness”, which features a large variety of Archie comics. Some digests and trades focus on love and relationships in Riverdale. Of course, Hoopla has a vast library of Archie Comics, covering everything from the Golden Age to the present.
In my humble opinion, the best place to sample comic books, especially indie publishers, is Global Comix. Over the past year, they have really stepped up by offering many comics at affordable prices. The collection includes a nice selection of Archie Comics. They may not have the biggest Archie Comics library, but when new Archie comics hit the comic shops, they also appear in Global Comix.
Oddly enough, the best place to read Archie Comics is through Amazon. Many fans no longer pay attention to ComiXology since it made some unfriendly changes a couple of years ago. However, it did allow Global Comix and other platforms to step up where ComiXology failed indie publishers and fans.
You don’t actually need a ComiXology account to read Archie Comics either. There are tons of Archie Comics available if you use Amazon Prime. Granted, searching for Archie Comics (or any comics, actually) can be annoying. Searching for something simple like “Fantastic Four Vol. 1 Issue 1” will get you everything, but that’s actually the comic. Deep-diving for certain comics can be more of a pain than it might be worth it. Hence, Global Comix.
Still, there is no other place to read Archie Comics from the Golden Age through now. Every Archie comic from the Golden Age through the last time the comic was around is there. For some unknown reason, a few years ago, they added every.
The point isn’t just to read “free” Archie Comics, but to sample something new. It’s so that the next time you head out to your comic shop, you might pick up some Archie Comics—or for someone you know! Archie is all-ages fun that more fans should be reading!
Remember, Archie is one of three publishers still publishing since the Golden Age. And for the comic industry to continue to grow and thrive, fans need to go beyond the hottest titles and creators.
