85 years of publishing comics: That’s what Archie is celebrating this year. It doesn’t matter how long you have been reading comic books; that number is fantastically, mind-boggling! Look at some of the ups and downs of the comic industry (especially the last few years!) and all the publishers that have come and gone. It’s one of only three publishers that have been putting out comics since it all began.
Of course, Archie is putting out comics all year to celebrate, and fans should join in by reading more Archie Comics. There are lots of ways to sample Archie, and I’m not even going to give my list of reasons WHY fans should read more Archie, because they should. Look, if comics are to continue to grow, fans need to look beyond the hot titles, creators, and comics.
Pin-up one-shots are a staple for publishers and fans. Yet, Archie makes it special with their new Betty & Veronica Pin‑Up Special. At first glance, you might think it’s another one of those facsimile editions that Archie has been putting out lately. That would be that fantastically, retro Dan DeCarlo cover.
Dan DeWhata? (Sigh!), For all you new to Archie Comics, Dan DeCarlo is the artist who defined the classic Archie look for generations. If you picture Betty and Veronica with their iconic style, expressions, and fashion‑forward charm, you’re picturing DeCarlo’s influence! He started working for Archie in the late 1950s and stayed for more than 40 years, shaping the company’s visual identity through countless stories, covers, and pin‑ups. His clean lines, expressive characters, and sense of humor became the blueprint for the entire Archie universe, making him one of the most important artists in the company’s history.
Overall, it is a fun little comic! Besides, with Archie, how could you go wrong with anything they have ever published? And, when was the last time you read an Archie comic?
