Fantagraphics is excited to give you a peek into our May releases. Please see the book information below.

I am highlighting Listen, Beautiful Márcia by Marcello Quintanilha (link). This graphic novel is a fast-paced, flamboyantly colorful new graphic novel about a young mother struggling to raise her rebellious teenage daughter in the slums of Rio, Brazil. Interweaving deeply personal insight into the difficulties of parenthood with lush backdrops of the elegance and crudeness within the favela-dense landscape of Rio, this book has already garnered international acclaim and won the “Fauve d’Or” at the Angouleme International Comics Festival.

May 2023 Releases:

Listen, Beautiful Márcia by Marcello Quintanilha

Listen, Beautiful Márcia is a fast-paced, flamboyantly colorful new graphic novel by one of the most important Brazilian graphic novelists working today, a tightly wound drama filled with masterful suspense and a deep love for family and character.

Salome’s Last Dance by Daria Tessler

Daria Tessler’s new graphic novella showcases her phenomenal talent for incorporating elements of collage and pen-and-ink illustration to create a beautifully phantasmagoric experience under the guise of an absurdist, psychedelic fantasy (including an extended visual tour de force depicting a hallucinogenic tea trip), one that favorably compares to Yellow Submarine or the comics of Jim Woodring.

Disney One Saturday Morning Adventures by Daan Jippes, Laura McCreary, and Scott Gimple

From Disney Adventures and its sister magazines come classic comics based on your favorite 1990s Saturday morning block—pour a bowl of cereal and dig into a nostalgic tribute to Disney’s One Saturday Morning!

Red Room: Crypto Killaz #1 by Ed Piskor

The media won’t leave Brianna Fairfield alone since her father was arrested and identified as the Steel City Cannibal. But what more sinister forces are also following her? Mistress Pentagram and the Red Room Players return in this all-new, four-issue miniseries from Ed Piskor (X-Men: Grand Design)! Splatterpunk never looked so good! As seen on YouTube’s Cartoonist Kayfabe!
