I am highlighting Listen, Beautiful Márcia by Marcello Quintanilha (link). This graphic novel is a fast-paced, flamboyantly colorful new graphic novel about a young mother struggling to raise her rebellious teenage daughter in the slums of Rio, Brazil. Interweaving deeply personal insight into the difficulties of parenthood with lush backdrops of the elegance and crudeness within the favela-dense landscape of Rio, this book has already garnered international acclaim and won the “Fauve d’Or” at the Angouleme International Comics Festival.
