What’s Inside
“Read Me First” Quick-Start: When players open the box, they will find a “Read Me First: Quick-Start Guide” that lists everything inside, including adventure booklets, maps, tokens, class boards, and cards. A handy QR code provides an overview of the guide. This guide serves as a valuable resource for both players and the Dungeon Master (Game Master or DM).
Maps: 9 maps beautifully printed, detailed, and carefully crafted. All of the foldable maps are playable on both sides. Spaces are measured out and displayed for reference, along with numbered spaces to follow along while adventuring.
Class Boards: Come ready for players who want to step into the roles of Cleric, Fighter, Rogue, and Wizard. Class Boards range from a variety of starter classes for the first-time player, spanning from level 1 to 4. Details of the class role, assigned dice, skills, and which cards to equip are all detailed on these boards.
Cards: The cards are very detailed and illustrated to help players kickstart their imagination. Descriptions and helpful indicators to give player characters their uniqueness are spread throughout the Background and Species Cards. For example, a player might want to play a dwarf with a background as an acolyte. Their cards would consist of what to expect for spells within this background, and the resilience and toughness traits of their dwarven species.
Handouts: To keep players immersed in the adventure, this box provides five handouts to use throughout the adventure. From merchant inventory sheets to a tavern menu with killer prices, these sheets are detailed and illustrated to bring a piece of the world to the table.
Booklets & Tokens: The Heroes of the Borderlands booklets are similar to traditional D&D game manuals, providing the essential contents for Dungeon Masters to kick off their adventures. They include the adventure’s setting, combat NPC character guides, dialogue cues, and layouts, along with a step-by-step walkthrough of the adventure. These booklets offer tutorials tailored for new Dungeon Masters, helping them understand examples to share with their players and how dungeons and encounters might unfold. They serve as an excellent starting point for novice Dungeon Masters eager to gain valuable experience.
- Caves of Chaos: Does your adventuring party dare to step into a labyrinth of caves housing monsters and a sinister cult? Those brave enough will be rewarded with treasure and glory if they survive.
- Wilderness: A classic stroll through the dense forest takes a turn when monsters attack the adventuring party. This area of the Borderlands is uncharted once you venture off the Trail.
- Keep on the Borderlands: An otherwise protected community has mysteries lying within its shadows. Players can solve cases and become a town hero if they play their cards right.
- Play Guide: This booklet offers a sweeping overview of the additional components of the Starter Set. The various cards include Background Cards, Species Cards, Equipment, and Spell Cards. Players will also find explanations for class boards and the multiple dice within its pages. Every piece of D&D content is broken down in a way that’s easy for new players to grasp. Additionally, it features a Rules Glossary that defines commonly used terms in D&D, such as Armor Class, Concentration, Opportunity Attacks, and various status effects like being Dead or Blind.
