Dan Sehn talks about BIG HOUSE BLUES #4

My longtime friend and fellow indie comic creator, Dan Seh,n has a third comic in this latest ThunderZone Kickstarter, Big House Blues #4

First Comics News: For new readers, who is Lee Coleman?

Dan Sehn: Lee is the head corrections officer at the Mega-Villain Reformatory, nicknamed the ‘Devil’s Den’. It is essentially a high-tech maximum security prison for super villains. Beyond that, he is a devoted husband and loving father. His superhero name is Alloy, and he is super-strong, bulletproof with heightened reflexes. As with all the superheroes that work as corrections officers, his title often accompanies his name with others calling him Officer Alloy.

1st: What was the main focus for Big House Blues #4?

Dan: This issue wraps up our first story arc involving the mystery of a slain inmate in issue one. Tensions are already high due to funding cutbacks and unrest among the inmates, so things in this pressure cooker finally boil over.

1st: Do you need to have read the first three issues to understand what’s going on?

Dan: No, the first couple of pages bring new readers up to date, but of course, it is a richer reading experience to have the previous issues.

1st: Are issues 1-3 available in this campaign?

Dan: Yes, we have an “any issue” add-on, so backing 3 of those as add-ons will do the trick. We’ll be asking those who back the “any issue” to specify those issues in the survey

1st: How do the relationships between characters evolve in issue four?

Dan: At this point in the series, the corrections officers have worked together for a while now, so that friendship and trust have been built at this point. A look at Lee’s first day on the job to now would certainly have shown an evolution in that regard.

1st: Are any new characters introduced?

Dan: Throughout the series, we are introduced to new superhero corrections officers and new super-villain inmates.

1st: How does Big House Blues #4 set up future storylines?

Dan: Well, if Alloy survives this one, there are certainly more adventures to be had, but if not, there is a rich cast of corrections officers for us to check in on in the Big House.

1st: What would you say to new readers discovering the series with this issue?

Dan: It’s not too late to get in on this series and enjoy the fantastic art by Ron C. Williams, Elton Thomasi, and Gilbert Monsanto with colors by Giuseppe Pica. These guys did tremendous work on the series that I’m sure will appeal to most readers of indie comics.
