Dan Sehn talks about BIG HOUSE BLUE #3

My longtime friend and fellow indie comic creator Dan Sehn is back with a new issue of Big House Blues as his second comic in the latest ThunderZone Kickstarter.

First Comics News: For anyone new to the comic, who is Officer Alloy?

Dan: Lee Coleman, otherwise known as Officer Alloy, chief guard in this deadly high-security mega villain prison.

1st: Do you need to have read issues 1-2 to follow the story?

Dan: There is a recap but issues 1 and 2 are available as add ons to get the bigger picture in more detail.

1st: Can you pledge for all 3 issues if you are new to the ThunderZone Universe?

Dan: Yes, with the add-ons for this or any of the other books in the campaign.

1st: What is the Mega-Villain Reformatory?

Dan: The Mega-Villain Reformatory houses some of the deadliest mega villains humanity has to offer. Stripped of their unnatural abilities due to the power-dampening collars bound upon their necks and secured in their cells by innovative polarized bars. Within this prison, nicknamed the Devil’s Den, the mega-powered correction officers are all that stand between a nervous public and some of the greatest evils the world has ever seen.

1st: Is the Devil’s Den filled with villains unique to Big House Blues, or have they been captured in the other Thunderzone comics?

Dan: As the heroes of the Thunderzone Comics Universe inhabit the same Earth, supervillains from other books could end up there. It could be possible that Marshal Strong or Meta, for instance, were responsible for bringing in some of the prison’s occupants. We even had a prisoner dropoff variant cover for Marshal Strong #1 and Big House Blues #2 that showed Marshal handing off a super convict to Officer Alloy.

1st: Are the guards of Devil’s Den superpowered?

Dan: Yes, all the guards are superheroes. They maintain their costumes but are issued a badge. Some still protect their local areas on their days off.

1st: How does Devil’s Den recruit guards?

Dan: There is a civil service exam to pass and background checks. Physical and psychological exams are performed. Pretty much the same as any other civil service job but the requirements of super abilities is spelled out on their recruitment website or print ads.

1st: Why did Lee Coleman want to be a guard at Devil’s Den?

Dan: Lee has a family and wanted to provide for them. He was also a sidekick in his younger years and always wanted to use his powers to do good (even though his powers were different at the time… all covered in issue 2).

1st: I love Ron Williams, I worked with him on G-Men United and the Golden Tiki. I’m a long time fan of his work at Big Bang Comics. What’s it like for you to work with Ron?

Dan: I buy all of Ron’s work in those publications as well. Ron has been a pleasure to work with. I first recall Ron’s work in Unit Zero: Marquis File from 2004, and enjoyed that. I eventually brought him on for Big House Blues and had Ms. Victory from Unit Zero: Marquis File appear in Argo 5 #41, which brought me full circle with Ron.

1st: Who do you have lined up as cover artists on Big House Blues #3?

Dan: Ron has the main cover as his art is so powerful but talking of power we have the Powerverse’s Vince White for cover B. Lastly we have cover C by Rom Freire which is incomplete as we have a reward tier available for people to put themselves or their villain character in a cell on this extremely limited variant.

1st: What is the URL for the campaign?

Dan: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dansehn/thunderzone-comics-strikes-back

1st: What is the minimum price for a digital copy?

Dan: $6

1st: What is the minimum price for a print copy?

Dam: $12

1st: What makes Big House Blues so cool that no true fan should miss it?

Dan: I have had plenty of interactions with corrections officers from a past career in law enforcement, so the book does bring some authenticity to it despite the superhuman elements. They say that it takes 10 thousand hours to master a skill, and as Argo 5 nears 50 issues and with over a hundred published comics under my belt, I think the quality of my Thunderzone titles is worth checking out for the discerning funnybook aficionado.
