‘Critical Role: The Armory of Heroes’ is a Must-Have for Critters!

Rejoice, Critters! The Critical Role: The Armory of Heroes is here to be a glorious addition to your bookcase and a life-saving resource for cosplayers. Critical Role has shared their stories across various media formats in recent years. From comic books to novels, the stories of Exandria and its cherished heroes are plentiful. With Tusk Love and Der Katzenprinz and Other Zemnian Tales now available, Critters can have a piece of the world’s literature from the Critical Role campaigns. However, Critical Role: The Armory of Heroes brings the magic of Exandria to a natural 20.

Within this hardcover lies the cast of characters from Vox Machina (including Taryon Darrington and Trinket), the Mighty Nein, and The Ring of Brass of the EXU Calamity in full, gorgeous illustration by Ana Fedina. This book is a collection of beloved weapons, armor, and artifacts across the three campaigns of Critical Role throughout the years.

The Adventure Begins

From Mythcarver to Dwueth’var, this compendium is filled with exquisite, detailed art of these iconic relics, as well as their lore and history, unveiling these favorite heroic armaments like they’ve never been seen before.”

Critical Role: The Armory of Heroes showcases every member of these cherished campaigns in striking detail. The attention to detail and care for these characters shines throughout the pages, down to the last rune on Vax’s Deathwalker’s Ward. Illustrations show front, side, and back profiles from head to toe, with notable weapons, armor, and accessories equipped throughout the campaign, as well as their histories.

Scattered throughout the pages are more pieces of Exandria’s lore in the form of first-hand statements, poetry, and descriptions of artifacts. From skimming through this volume, I gleaned that Vox Machina was seen as glorious heroes who have saved the world, while the Mighty Nein aren’t given a clear label in their chaotic adventures.

“Look at me! Purple skin, red eyes, curling horns, I’m covered in tattoos and marks and scars that I couldn’t tell you where the f***ing f**** they came from because I don’t even know where I came from! People are going to look anyway, because people are awful and curious little birds. Might as well give them something to look at, if that’s going to be how it is.’ And then they said I was paing and stormed out. – an excerpt from Tallulah Fontaine, interviewing Gustav Fletching, tracked down in Rexxentrum. (pg 115)

There is truly something for every Critter within these pages. Whether you are a seasoned Critter or a fan of great high fantasy with no prior knowledge of Critical Role, Exandria, or the characters, this volume can still inspire you. Over 200 pages of illustrated goodness, this collectible book can also make a great gift.

After announcing that a fourth campaign will launch on October 2nd, there is still time to freshen up on Exandria and its heroes. Also, be sure to check out our review of Der Katzenprinz and Other Zemnian Tales before you dive into your Critical Role cosplay!
