Hunt Valley, Maryland – With the success of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #50 and the on-going celebration of the Guide’s golden anniversary, Gemstone Publishing has announced the second of its covers for The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #51.
Denys Cowan, the acclaimed artist of The Question: The Deaths of Vic Sage and an original co-founder of the Milestone universe, has teamed with inker Bill Sienkiewicz and colorist Christopher Sotomayor to illustrate Static and Hardware for the Guide. It will be available in both hardcover and soft cover editions and is scheduled to arrive in comic shops on Wednesday, July 21, 2021.
Launched in 1993, the Milestone titles included Static (later Static Shock) and Hardware among their first four debut series. It was recently announced that the Milestone Universe would return at DC Comics, which published it originally through 1997.
“As excited as we are about Milestone’s return – and we’re very excited about it – we had this cover in the works well before that return was announced. Denys Cowan and Bill Sienkiewicz have delivered a powerhouse image, and Christopher Sotomayor’s colors assure that this cover stands with the greats in the Guide’s five-decade history,” said J.C. Vaughn, Vice-President of Publishing for Gemstone Publishing.
Cowan, Sienkiewicz, and Sotomayor join a five-decade-deep roster of Guide cover artist talent that includes Joe Kubert, Will Eisner, Carl Barks, Wally Wood, Alex Schomburg, C.C. Beck, Murphy Anderson, George Pérez, Mark Chiarello, Darwyn Cooke, Amanda Conner, Walter Simonson, Adam Hughes, J. Scott Campbell, Ryan Sook, and Todd McFarlane, among others.
It was announced in September that artist David Mack has provided a beautiful Daredevil/Echo cover for The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #51. This Static/Hardware cover is the second cover slated for that edition.
The Bible of serious comic book collectors, dealers, and historians since it was first published in 1970, The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide is released each July by Gemstone Publishing. Compiled by founder Robert M. Overstreet with contributions from an extensive roster of Overstreet Advisors, the Guide offers insight into the complex and exciting comic book market. In addition to new prices, this edition includes new feature articles, new additions to the Overstreet Hall of Fame, and dozens of new market reports.
When it arrives, CBPG #51 will join a strong line-up of books. The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #50 Todd McFarlane Spawn/Spider-Man soft cover edition is still available for retailers to re-order from Diamond Comic Distributors. The hardcover edition is sold out from Diamond. It and the other editions of CBPG #50 may still be available from local comic book shops, so check with your nearest shop to find out. Overstreet @50: Five Decades of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide was released Wednesday, November 4, and reveals the Guide’s development and history. The Facsimile Edition of the 1971 blue cover second printing of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #1 is due in comic shops February 24, 2021. The Overstreet Guide To Grading Comics – Sixth Edition is due in stores in April 2021.
“2020 has been a tumultuous year for all of us, but the Guide’s golden anniversary has had a lot of bright moments,” Vaughn said. “We look forward to continuing with that theme and building on it in the year to come.”
