C.H.E.S.S./THE EDGE: PHANTOMS RETURNS WITH CROSSOVER COVER COLLECTION ON FUNDMYCOMIC

Two hard-hitting independent comic book teams collide again as C.H.E.S.S./The Edge: Phantoms returns with a new Crossover Cover Collection campaign on FundMyComic.

The project brings together C.H.E.S.S., created by Alfred Paige, and The Edge, created by Marvin Wynn, for an action-packed meeting of two black ops teams that do not necessarily play by the same rules.

The original C.H.E.S.S./The Edge: Phantoms crossover was created by Alfred Paige, Marvin Wynn, Mike Lynch, Beezzz Studio, and Saida Temofonte. The 32-page story centers on high-profile criminal Brandy Mantle, who is being transported to the new maximum-security prison Ashgate. The government response team known as The Edge is assigned to help escort the prisoner.

There is just one problem.

C.H.E.S.S. wants Mantle too.

The personal-agenda strike team has questions for the prisoner that they intend to have answered before he reaches Ashgate. When C.H.E.S.S. intercepts the transport, the two teams find themselves on a collision course before circumstances force them to confront a much larger threat.

Two teams. Two missions. One outcome.

The crossover combines the covert-operations atmosphere of both titles with the kind of large-scale superhero action that inspired C.H.E.S.S. creator Alfred Paige. Paige has cited titles such as X-Men and the early Image Comics books among the influences behind his approach to the series.

Marvin Wynn began developing The Edge in 1992, with the concept going through several versions before evolving into the series readers know today. The crossover gives fans of both independently created universes an opportunity to see how their characters, personalities, and very different methods interact when their missions overlap.

The original campaign also became something of a showcase for independent comic book cover art. Variants included work by Donny Hadiwidjaja, Netho Diaz, Luigi Teruel, William Reyes, Leah Kemp, Michael Watson, and Iwan Joko, along with team covers, connecting covers, homage covers, and other collectible editions. The new C.H.E.S.S./The Edge: Phantoms Crossover Cover Collection gives collectors another opportunity to explore that visual side of the crossover.

For readers who enjoy independent superhero universes, tactical teams, covert missions, government operatives, and heroes whose objectives do not always line up neatly, C.H.E.S.S./The Edge: Phantoms offers exactly what a crossover should: characters who have every reason to fight each other before discovering that they may have an even bigger fight ahead of them.

The C.H.E.S.S./The Edge: Phantoms Crossover Cover Collection is available now through FundMyComic.
