“The time is ripe for the return of horror comics, and IDW is matching the vibe with this new imprint.” – Shaun Corley, Screen Rant

LOS ANGELES, CA (October 9, 2026) – Blumhouse, the innovative horror storytelling studio behind recent hits like Obsession and Five Nights at Freddy’s, is partnering with the award-winning IDW Publishing to bring even more spine-tingling terror to the best-selling comic book horror imprint IDW Dark.

The petrifying partnership tears into comic shops late 2027 with the fan-favorite The Purge. Eisner Award-winning writer Dan Watters(Batman: Dark Patterns, TMNT: Shredder) and acclaimed artist Juan José Ryp (Wolverine: Blood Hunt, Ghost Rider: Vengeance Forever) brings the dystopian and compelling premise – a world in which any and all crime, especially murder, is legal one night a year – to the pages of the comics with a gripping new chapter that features all the action, tension, and emotion that fans crave from the thrilling franchise. Following The Purge will be more unforgettable hits from Blumhouse making their comic book debuts with all-new stories, including M3GANand New York Times best-selling writer Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash, Venom War: Deadpool) taking a stab at HAPPY DEATH DAY.

A darkly comedic slasher with a sci-fi twist, Happy Death Day made an undeniable impact on pop culture with its mystery about a murder victim being forced to relive the day of their death over and over again to discover the shocking truth and unmask their killer.

Packed with chills and twisted humor with rich themes, the beloved sci-fi horror M3GAN is the saga of an advanced A.I. doll which takes its good-intentioned programming to extreme and bloody measures. Additional details about these titles and more from the acclaimed Blumhouse library of fear will be revealed at a later date.

“Quality storytelling experiences are always our top priority at IDW, so partnering with Blumhouse to expand our horror imprint was truly a no-brainer decision,” said Davidi Jonas, IDW CEO. “Working with Blumhouse to continue exploring the compelling potential of their modern classics within the pages of the comics is a tremendous honor and the creative conversations have been exciting. I can’t wait for fans to feast their eyes on these stories.”

Just like buying tickets before going to the movie theater to guarantee a good seat, fans should contact a comic shop near them to pre-order The Purge to make sure they don’t miss out on getting their copies.
