Bloodshot Marks Overstreet’s 50th
John K. Snyder III’s Guide Cover Features X-O Manowar, Livewire
Hunt Valley, Maryland – Fresh off the feature film debut of Valiant’s Bloodshot, artist John K. Snyder III (Eight Million Ways To Die) brings not only Bloodshot, but also X-O Manowar and Livewire to the cover of The Overstreet Comic Book Price #50, joining the Guide’s golden anniversary celebration.
This cover will be offered in the April 2020 PREVIEWS from Diamond Comic Distributors in both soft cover ($29.95 SRP) and hardcover ($37.50) editions. Both versions of this cover will be available exclusively through comic shops.
“Robert Overstreet is a defining and continuing force in the history and world of comic collecting, and it’s an honor to contribute to this landmark 50th edition of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide,” Snyder said. “I’ve had the opportunity to work on a few projects with Valiant in the past year and it’s great to see their characters getting this kind of spotlight.”
“Since Valiant’s original debut in the ‘90s, the characters and stories created by Jim Shooter, Barry Windsor-Smith, David Lapham, Don Perlin, Kevin Van Hook and so many others have established themselves with incredible staying power and fan appeal. Now that the modern Valiant is branching out into films, we expect more readers than ever to get to know them,” said J.C. Vaughn, Vice-President of Publishing for Gemstone Publishing. “John K. Snyder III has brilliantly captured the energy of Bloodshot, X-O Manowar, and Livewire to commemorate five decades of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide.”
Snyder matches up to the late, great Murphy Anderson as the most prolific Guide cover artist in the publication’s history. Beginning with his interpretation of Jack Kirby’s Fantastic Four #1 on CBPG #31, he worked with the Overstreet team at Gemstone to recreate a number of Marvel Silver Age key covers for the Guide, including Incredible Hulk #1, Daredevil #1, Journey Into Mystery #83, and Tales of Suspense #39, among others, across several years.
He returns to roster of top comic book talents who have provided covers for the Guide over its five decades. Joe Kubert, Will Eisner, Carl Barks, Wally Wood, Alex Schomburg, C.C. Beck, Murphy Anderson, George Pérez, Mark Chiarello, Darwyn Cooke, Amanda Conner, Walter Simonson, Adam Hughes, J. Scott Campbell, and Ryan Sook are among the luminaries who have illustrated the top characters in comics on Overstreet covers.
The Bible of serious comic book collectors, dealers, and historians since it was first published in 1970, The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide is released each July by Gemstone Publishing. Compiled by founder Robert M. Overstreet with contributions from an extensive roster of Overstreet Advisors, the Guide offers insight into the complex and exciting comic book market. In addition to new prices, this edition includes new feature articles, new additions to the Overstreet Hall of Fame, and dozens of new market reports.
Both the soft cover and hardcover editions of Snyder’s Valiant Heroes cover, as well as all other editions of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #50, will go on sale in the comic book market on Wednesday, July 22. The April PREVIEWS will be online Friday, March 20, and the print version will be in comic shops on Wednesday, March 25.
Snyder’s Valiant Heroes cover for The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #50 joins the previously announced Spawn/Spider-Man crossover cover by Todd McFarlane and the Wynonna Earp by Chris Evenhuis. One more cover will be announced in the coming days. They will join The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #1 Facsimile Edition and Overstreet @ 50: Five Decades of The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide as part of 2020’s year-long celebration of the Guide’s rich history.https://www.firstcomicsnews.com/bloodshot-marks-overstreets-50th/https://www.firstcomicsnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Gemstone-logo-600x257.pnghttps://www.firstcomicsnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Gemstone-logo-150x64.pngNews
