OUT OF THE PAGES OF EPITAPHS FROM THE ABYSS . . . A MONSTROUS NEW EC COMICS MILESTONE BEGINS!
From Hugo Award-nominated writer Corinna Bechko (Cruel Universe, Green Lantern: Earth One) and Eisner Award-winning artist Andrea Sorrentino (Gideon Falls, Bone Orchard), THE FANGS ARE COMING OUT as EC’s own blood-splattered, bon vivant vampire rises from her first appearance in EC Comics’ bestselling, blockbuster anthology . . . and into the history-marking, first-ever standalone horror series from the most notorious name in terror!
WHEN YOU’RE A VAMPIRE, EVERYBODY SUCKS . . . SOONER OR LATER! Meet Ada, an immortal vampire whose misdeeds have landed her on the doorstep of an idyllic Caribbean resort. . . . An island paradise teeming with wealthy tourists and superstitious locals-an ample food supply for the thirsty vamp looking to get away from it all!
But as Ada stalks the boundaries of her new hunting ground, she’ll soon become embroiled in a deadly game of cat and mouse by moonlight . . . as an older, wiser, and entirely different kind of predator reveals its own carnal hunger for greed and power. Who will survive when a brand-new kind of BLOOD TYPE declares war on a cunning bloodsucker with nothing left to lose . . . and what will be left of them?!

Blood Type #1 doesn’t just bring EC Comics back—it makes sure you feel every bite. As the publisher’s first-ever standalone horror series, this debut issue sets the tone with style, violence, and a lead character who’s as vicious as she is compelling. It’s a bold experiment by Oni Press and EC, moving away from the short anthology format into a full-length, serialized story—and for the most part, it works beautifully.

At the center of it all is Ada—a vampire who’s nothing like the ones we’ve seen before. She’s sardonic, cold-blooded, and deeply unpredictable. There’s no tortured soul behind her fangs, no tragic romance waiting to unfold. She’s just here for a good time and a satisfying feed. After making her debut in Epitaphs from the Abyss, Ada now takes the spotlight as she arrives on a Caribbean island full of clueless tourists and juicy secrets. Paradise, for someone like her.

But Ada’s not the only predator in paradise. As she explores her new hunting ground, she crosses paths with another sinister force—one with its own thirst for control, power, and blood. What follows is a tense, eerie game of survival, told with razor-sharp wit and soaked in dread.

Corinna Bechko’s writing gives Ada a distinct voice—clever, cutting, and just the right amount of snarky. Andrea Sorrentino’s artwork is moody and ambitious, full of shadows and layered textures. Some of the panel layouts are striking and cinematic, though a few pages do veer into confusing territory. It’s a minor hiccup in an otherwise atmospheric and stylish debut. Dave Stewart’s colors bring everything together, setting a tone that’s equal parts sultry and sinister.

What really makes this issue stand out is how different it feels from typical vampire fare. Ada isn’t hunting for meaning—she’s just hunting. Her anarchic energy gives the book an edge, and even when things get a little chaotic, she anchors the story with her unpredictable charisma.

As a first issue, Blood Type delivers what it promises: sharp dialogue, slick art, and a new kind of monster who doesn’t need your sympathy—just your blood. If you’re into horror with brains, style, and a nasty streak, this one’s worth a look.
