First Look at Magic: The Gathering | Reality Fracture

The newest Magic: The Gathering set will let fans watch infamous characters get thrown into an iconic Multiverse battle. Reality Fracture spotlights planeswalker Jace Beleren as he attempts to create a new multiverse called the Echoverse. Within this multiverse, every invasion and catastrophe has been erased, creating alternate versions of familiar characters, icons, and locations within Strixhaven. Or should we call it Hexhaven? First teased in 2023 at Gen Con Indiana, Reality Fracture also concludes the Echoverse Arc event set. But who you are in this reality is up to you.

So, what does a universe without “suffering” look like? Reality Fracture brings the “What If” to Magic: The Gathering, while also peeking into a dystopian magical school and giving a deeper exploration into Jace’s character. Other iconic characters, including Liliana, Chandra, Ajani, Garruk, and more, will appear with a creative twist.

Prerelease began as September ended, and first impressions are circling around excitement and fun. Magic fans are praising the thrill of opening packs, with the unexpected being at every corner.

The Magic: The Gathering | Reality Fracture set officially releases Friday, October 2. Here is our brief rundown on the mechanics and products of Reality Fracture!

The Story & Art of Reality Fracture

Reality Fracture is the epic conclusion to a 3-year, 12-set story with incredible art and narrative. That’s right, Magic goes beyond being just an engaging trading card game. The story begins in the Omenpath Arc, with Outlaws of Thunder Junction kicking off the main story. You can find most of these stories on The Magic Story Podcast, YouTube, or the official Magic website.

During MagicCon: Las Vegas ‘26, fans got a glimpse of the Reality Fracture visuals, and the art speaks for itself!

In Reality Fracture, Special Guests return with 10 cards beautiful, borderless cards. Each Play Booster includes a non-foil double-sided token featuring 15 full-art tokens and 3 emblems in various combinations. Collector Boosters include 54 art cards, with a chance to pull a rare gold-stamped card.

The set has over 450 cards, headlined by a textless, serialized, double-rainbow-foil Bloodline Recollector. Veteran fans will recognize the throwback full-art frame and appreciate that this headliner mirrors the Secrets of Strixhaven headliner! 500 serialized versions of Bloodline Recollector are waiting to be discovered in Reality Fracture Collector Boosters.

Reality Fracture showcases a design never seen in Magic before: Shattered Mirror and Facet Foil. Collectors can find these mirror cards in foil and non-foil in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters. Facet Foil Shattered Mirror cards can only be found in Collector Boosters.

The Echoverse is an alternate reality where characters and their known colors are given a new identity. Reality Fracture introduces Echoed Pair cards, with around 20 per color (borderless and default). For a full breakdown on the Echoverse design, check out Yoni Skolnik’s article!

Magic has an incredible card image gallery to browse every card, its details, and where to find it. Furthermore, for a full list of everything Reality Fracture, check out the official Magic Amazon store.

New Mechanics Awaken

Within Jace’s reality, his power surrounds us. Mechanics of the set include:

Empower Jace: Put X loyalty counters on a Jace token you control. If you don’t control one, first create a blue Jace planeswalker token. The new Jace token has two loyalty abilities: “−1: Surveil 1” and “−3: Draw a card.”

Heartwood Tokens: Created for this reality, Heartwood tokens are an artifact token that grants a steady boost of mana

Prepare: While it’s prepared, you may cast a copy of its spell. Doing so unprepares it.

Products for Magic: The Gathering | Reality Fracture include Collector Boosters, a standard Bundle, Draft Night, Commander Decks, and Boosters.

The set is available for preorder now from your local game store, TCGplayer, Amazon, and elsewhere Magic is sold.

Thank you to Wizards of the Coast for providing goodies for this guide.
