(New York, NY) Longtime entertainment company Studio Chikara has just published its new comic-book series, PUBLIC DOMAIN FUNNIES COMICS — celebrating the iconic characters who have endured the test of time, while honoring their original creators!
The debut 32-page issue features the first appearances of three major cartoon and comic strips, reinterpreted by some of today’s greatest artists, including Milton Knight, Ken Wheaton, Richard Maurizio, Michael Grassia, Patrick Owsley, and more!
Stories include adaptations of 1928’s “Plane Crazy,” 1929’s “Thimble Theater,” and 1930’s “Dizzy Dishes,” paying tribute to Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, E.C. Segar, and Fleischer Studios, respectively. The issue also includes an all-new Introduction by animation author and historian Jerry Beck!
“Ever since my first exposure to these characters during childhood, I fantasized about creating my own stories with them,” says editor and comics veteran Robert V. Conte. “Now that so many of my favorite comics and cartoons have entered the public domain in the United States, that dream has become reality.”
PUBLIC DOMAIN FUNNIES #1 is AVAILABLE NOW and features four collectible covers. The first printing is 32 pages, in full color, and printed on heavy magazine-style gloss paper for the low price of $6.99 per copy.
“This first issue has an exceptionally low print run and cover price by today’s industry standards,” says Conte. “We hope the series will make its own history.”
This title is available ONLY from Studio Chikara and will not be sold through distributors. Retailers wishing to carry this debut issue may contact us at www.publicdomainfunnies.com or at StudioChikara1994@gmail.com for ordering information. Thank you!
