This week, I’m excited to dive into issue number two of “Super Creepshow,” which features two fantastic installments. The first one, written by Gerry Duggan and legendary comic creator Marv Wolfman (known for Crisis on Infinite Earths and New Teen Titans), centers around a hero named The Keg from Minneapolis-Saint Paul. He’s determined to maintain his fame and popularity, all while hiding a dark secret about his powers. The second story is a fascinating exploration of whether vampires can truly be superheroes. Although this series is only in its second issue, it continues to reveal the darker, more frightening side of heroism—so much so that it might even be considered creepy! ( I had to say it) Duggan and Scott Buoncristiano’s story, where The Keg faces off against his enemy, The Scholar, offers a chilling variation on the classic Superman/Lex Luthor rivalry. It introduces a horrifying twist that catches you off guard. Duggan does a wonderful job of delving into the grim truth behind The Keg and how he gained his powers, fitting perfectly into the “Creepshow” theme. The dark humor sprinkled throughout keeps the story engaging rather than just a typical superhero tale. Meanwhile, the vampire story presents a fresh take on vampire mythology. While it touches on familiar vampire concepts, it also offers a thought-provoking and intriguing perspective—especially appealing to fans familiar with Marv Wolfman’s work on “Blade.” His storytelling fits seamlessly into the Creepshow universe and raises the question: can vampires ever truly be heroes, even if some manage to control their bloodlust? While this series might not reinvent the superhero genre, it certainly explores the darker, more horrifying aspects of heroism from a fresh, frightening perspective. The grisly, innovative elements keep fans hooked and help continue to strengthen the strong reputation of the “Creepshow” brand.
