In the latest issue of “Taranis the Thunderlord,” Taranis takes on the Demolition Squad—a group featuring Demolisher, Hardhat, Nitro, Cutting Torch, Ballbreaker, and Wide Load—in a story that pays tribute to the 1980s “Thor” comics. The premise is simple: Taranis swoops in to rescue the president and several construction workers from a falling brick wall.
The action ramps up when the Demolition Squad appears after robbing a bank. Eric N. Bennett leans into the classic comic book style, giving a respectful nod to the “Mighty Marvel Manner.” Although the plot echoes Thor’s clashes with the Wrecking Crew, Bennett gives it new life with a fresh setting, while continuing to define Taranis as a strong and lasting hero in the G-Man Universe. His god-like strength is on full display, especially as the city is still recovering from the havoc caused by Valthana Shadowmoon and the snake-limbed giant Beglog. Taranis’s Celtic heritage is also highlighted, distinguishing him from Thor and other thunder gods, and making him even more appealing to superhero fans. Luis Rivera’s artwork stands out for its clean lines and dynamic energy, capturing the spirit of Bennett’s writing and delivering vibrant action scenes reminiscent of John Buscema, Keith Pollard, and Ron Frenz’s work on “Thor.” Overall, this installment of “Taranis the Thunderlord” is a fast-paced, action-filled story that reflects Bennett’s enthusiasm for “Thor” while creating a memorable and grounded comic book adventure.
