DC Comics has cancelled its newly launched Red Hood series just hours after the release of the first issue, following controversy over comments made by the writer, Gretchen Felker-Martin.
Retailers have been informed that orders for issues #2 and #3, as well as any future issues, have been cancelled. Copies of issue #1 will be credited, even if they have already been sold.
The decision was prompted by the writer’s posts on Bluesky that appeared to celebrate the death of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. In one post, Felker-Martin allegedly wrote, “Hope the bullet’s okay after touching Charlie Kirk,” among other remarks.
DC released a statement saying it “At DC Comics, we place the highest value on our creators and community and affirm the right to peaceful, individual expression of personal viewpoints. Posts or public comments that can be viewed as promoting hostility or violence are inconsistent with DC’s standards of conduct.”
