ARTIFICIAL #1
Writer/Artist: Maria Llovet
Cover Date: September 2025

This week, I will review issue one of ‘Artificial’ from Image Comics.
This new erotic thriller by writer and artist Maria Llovet introduces Clara, a fashion stylist disillusioned with love, who turns to a futuristic dating service offering lifelike android partners. When her ideal lover glitches into a possessive stalker, she becomes caught in a game of desire, control, and survival. The story comes across as straightforward erotica—tailored for comic book fans—yet Llovet offers a dark, stimulating take on the genre, immersing readers in a world full of intrigue. While sci-fi elements are present, Llovet isn’t shy about depicting passionate sex scenes and realistic banter between Clara and her friends, which balances the NSFW content. Her strong writing is complemented by striking artwork, reminiscent of Eduardo Risso and DANI, which makes the fast-paced narrative visually enticing. For her part, Llovet crafts a twisted, surreal exploration of love in the age of social media, highlighting how boundaries can blur and sometimes become toxic. Overall, this series is best enjoyed after midnight with a glass of wine and smooth jazz, as it awakens the romantic in anyone craving erotica in their comics.
Well, that’s it for me this week. Thanks for sticking around. I look forward to seeing you next time.
