A Look Into Mass Effect: The Official Cocktail Book

I’m Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite official cocktail book on the Citadel! The Mass Effect franchise is beloved by a huge fanbase across the galaxy. With a lore-rich sci-fi action story, incredible characters, and the chance to romance aliens, there’s no better way to celebrate the series than with a nice, strong drink. The Mass Effect: The Official Cocktail Book by Insight Editions is the perfect addition to any Mass Effect fan’s collection. With over 70 recipes for refreshing cocktails and snacks, it has something for everyone on your crew. After the recent news of BioWare’s fate, I think we all could use a drink and a toast to the stories that will last throughout many lifetimes.

The Mass Effect: The Official Cocktail Book is praised for its canon-official cocktails and snacks from iconic locations in the games. The contents are organized by mixer basics and location, including the Afterlife Club, Flux, and Purgatory Bar. The Normandy Crew even has a few concoctions thrown in, and we’re all curious what Joker’s go-to drink would be.

Protect the Galaxy & Enjoy the Stars

The book pays homage to fan-favorite characters Commander Shepard, Garrus, Wrex, Tali, and more. Written by Jim Festante under the in-universe alias of asari matriarch Ambree T’Sia, the book feels like it was plucked from the Mass Effect universe and placed in your hands. Each cocktail recipe includes a brief Mass Effect codex entry, such as Ambree T’Sia’s mention of Garrus Vakarian and his infamous calibrations for the Calibration Cooler drink (pg. 95).

Each drink features easy-to-follow instructions and specifies the yield based on the ingredients used. Some recipes suggest special tools or garnishes to add extra style and presentation. This book is designed for everyone, so no prior mixing experience is required. Every page is a delightful, page-turning experience with vibrant in-game images and stunning drink photography throughout.

As I flipped through, I immediately loved the in-game lore bits and character mentions. The fun nods to the games are great, but die-hard fans will love some of the deeper references. With the holidays coming and the annual fan-celebrated N7 Day on November 7th, this book is perfect for parties and get-togethers. We suggest the N7-themed drink, The N7 Shooter (pg. 102).

Feed the nostalgia, Normandy crew! The Mass Effect: The Official Cocktail Book is a must-have for Mass Effect fans looking to get some EXP in mixology. To get you started, we’re sharing some of our favorites.
