Evil Ernie Slashes Historic Facsimile!

Reprint of His Iconic First Appearance by Brian Pulido & Steven Hughes

September 17, Mt. Laurel, NJ: Evil Ernie is back! Dynamite announces a historic release for Chaos! fans this December, as the first-ever story featuring The Evil One is back in print with a special facsimile edition presenting the history-making and ground-breaking creation of Brian Pulido, alongside artist Steven Hughes.

The release celebrates the epic 35th anniversary of its original release, and is part of an ongoing partnership between Dynamite Entertainment and the original creator Brian Pulido’s Coffin Comics. The holy grail and ultimate origin of the Chaos! mythos is here and back in the hands of fans. Whether readers were there day one, jumped on in the original Chaos! Comics era later on, or have never explored these tales, this is a can’t-miss comic celebration.

Chaos! Comics with Evil Ernie leading the way offered a truly unique and unparalleled approach to comics starting in 1991. An ever-expanding cast of horror themed and often villainous characters were handled with an approach not too far off from what readers expect from superhero stories. What resulted is an interconnected web of vampires, demons, serial killers, and all manner of other horrifying yet deeply compelling stars.

In Evil Ernie #1, later on known by “Youth Gone Wild,” readers meet Ernest Fairchild. He’s a disaffected and abused teen being held captive in the Clearview Mental Institution under the eye of Dr. Leonard Price. The doctor has tried experimental treatments like dream therapy, which is how Ernest meets the mysterious and captivating Lady Death. The medical solutions don’t stick, just turning him more towards his destructive and homicidal urges. A psychiatrist specializing in the study of what makes people evil, Mary Young, visits the institute and observes Ernie’s violence firsthand. When a radical treatment using neurotech once more fails to cure him, he is fully unleashed as the maniacal Evil Ernie!

Evil Ernie #1 features writing and all original ideas and character designs from the mastermind Brian Pulido. The legendary and dearly departed Steven Hughes was chosen to bring these grisly details to the page, and became a superstar in the process. It’s all completed with an instantly iconic cover by Eric Mache. Following the release of this series, additional stories starring Ernie, Lady Death and new characters including Purgatori, Chastity, Lady Demon, and many more became a mainstay of the 1990s and beyond, with a diehard audience to this day.

“Evil Ernie #1 is my love letter to everything I love in horror: splatter punk ultra-violence, zombies, moody atmospheres, and a horror queen unrivaled to this day,” said writer and franchise creator Brian Pulido.

This facsimile edition presents the original comic in all its glory, including advertisements and more.

Collectors can opt for a crop of exciting alternate editions of the release, including a glow in the dark variant and metal premium cover. Brian Pulido himself will also be signing and remarqueing a limited number of copies. While aspiring artists and frequent convention attendees can opt for the Blank Authentix to create their own custom covers starring Evil Ernie!
