Comments: Captain Akeyo wants the Island of Absolution, the seat of power of the Vampirium. As the story moves along, we learn different aspects of how this world full of vampires is run. It is nice learning these small details about how things work in this world, and they add to the overall story.
Captain Akeyo is revealed to be a woman. The art and the way she has acted up to this point would make you think she was a man. This comes as a surprise because there really were no hints beforehand. It is simply mentioned almost offhandedly, which makes the revelation even more unexpected.
Nira and Longlocks, a short pirate with very long hair, are now working together. Their partnership is one of necessity, and it will be interesting to see how these two very different characters continue to work together.
While Nira is in a bar, something strange happens. She rescues a human woman from vampires serving the new Empress. This feels like a sidebar from the main story, as it does not really connect to the primary plot. Still, it gives us another look at the dangers humans face in this vampire-controlled world.
This issue is the beginning of a new adventure for Nira and the Captain. Whether they will survive the dangers ahead is one question, but whether they will survive each other is another matter entirely.
