reMIND: The Complete Edition
Author: Jason Brubaker
Publisher: Titan Comics (2026)
I didn’t follow reMIND during its original run as a webcomic, but now that this ambitious sci-fi adventure has been collected into a single deluxe volume from Titan Comics, I’m glad I finally experienced it.
Then again, perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise that Jason Brubaker has created something special. An award-winning graphic novelist and former DreamWorks Animation artist, Brubaker’s résumé includes work on Kung Fu Panda 2, Kung Fu Panda 3, The Croods, and Captain Underpants. That’s an impressive pedigree, and it shows on every page.
reMIND has a bit of a Rick Remender-style approach to strange science, mixed with the adventurous spirit of a classic Saturday morning cartoon. It’s unusual, imaginative, and wonderfully weird—but it’s also an absolute blast to read.
Originally launching as a webcomic in 2009, reMIND quickly attracted more than a million readers thanks to its richly detailed, animation-quality artwork and emotionally engaging storytelling. According to Penguin Random House, reMIND: The Complete Edition collects the entire saga into an oversized deluxe hardcover for the first time. (I read the digital edition.) This release also includes extensive behind-the-scenes material, showcasing Brubaker’s creative process through early thumbnails, layouts, pencils, inks, and finished color artwork.
While many graphic novels succeed because of either their artwork or their storytelling, reMIND excels at both. Brubaker delivers stunning visuals without sacrificing character development or narrative depth, creating a rare balance that elevates the entire experience.
From the Penguin Random House description:
“Sonja is a lighthouse keeper, a gifted mechanic, and an inventor. She lives a quiet life on a remote island with her cat, Victuals. When Victuals vanishes without explanation and then unexpectedly returns, something has changed. The cat now carries the brain of a strange, intelligent lizard-creature from a hidden underwater kingdom.
What follows is a mystery that spirals from the intimate—a girl trying to understand what happened to her companion—into something far larger: a conflict involving brain transplantation experiments, an ancient civilization of lizard-men living beneath the sea, and the dangerous ambitions of those who wield unchecked power. Sonja must navigate a world she didn’t know existed, protect the people she loves, and confront questions about faith, loyalty, and what it means to truly know someone.”
Like many works of “weird science,” reMIND won’t appeal to every reader. Its concepts are unapologetically strange, and it embraces that uniqueness from beginning to end. But if you’re willing to take the journey, you’ll discover a beautifully crafted adventure filled with heart, imagination, and breathtaking artwork.
I absolutely loved it and highly recommend reMIND: The Complete Edition. It’s one of those rare graphic novels that surprises you at every turn and makes for a perfect summer read.
