PORTLAND, OR (JUNE 26, 2026) – A BOLD, SURREAL VISION OF THE FUTURE FROM SUPERSTAR ANIMATOR JONATHAN DJOB NKONDO! Oni Press and Magnetic Press – the Eisner Award-winning publisher celebrating prestige graphic novels from around the globe since 2013 – are proud to announce the publication of
PEACEFUL REMISSION, a new graphic novel written and drawn by internationally acclaimed animator and artist
Jonathan Djob Nkondo, best known for his work on
Scavengers Reign, League of Legends, Love, Death & Robots, as well as his contribution to Gorillaz’s latest animated short film, “The Mountain, The Moon Cave, and The Sad God.” Hot on the heels of Magnetic and Oni Press’ smash-hit Kickstarter campaign, PEACEFUL REMISSION will arrive in comic shops on September 16th.
“Jonathan Djob Nkondo’s work as an animator, storyboard artist, and director has earned him a broad community of fans and respect around the world, and these personal graphic novels highlight his keen eye for world-building and pacing,” says Magnetic’s Director of Publishing Mike Kennedy. “PEACEFUL REMISSION is a heartfelt and haunting look at what the future might have in store and the timeless joys and struggles of relationships.”
Set in a satellite asteroid home orbiting Earth, PEACEFUL REMISSION follows elderly couple Marlène and Jerry Nomo, whose quiet life is disrupted by a mysterious nighttime rumble. But the real tension lies not in the noise but in Marlène’s simmering frustration with Jerry’s passivity. The incident becomes a catalyst for emotional confrontation, revealing the cracks in their long-standing relationship. When Jerry’s obsession with a recent discovery leaves Marlene responsible for his health and well-being, their seemingly ordinary tasks – shopping, driving, caregiving – are refracted through a surreal, futuristic lens, emphasizing the emotional weight of routine and the quiet heroism of unspoken love. Encapsulating themes of conjugal fatigue, silent devotion, and the illusion of tranquility, this surreal, contemplative work is told through clean, futuristic interiors contrasted with intimate character framing. In this fragmented yet lyrical tale that alternates between dialogue and silent observation, Jonathan Djob Nkondo uses the sterile calm of space as a metaphor for emotional distance, crafting a story that feels both timeless and eerily current.
Over 3,000 fans came together to back Jonathan Djob Nkondo’s graphic novels on Kickstarter, and on September 16th, PEACEFUL REMISSION will be available in bookstores and comic shops for readers to discover the artist’s masterful work for themselves.
