In the halls of a hospital, a chaplain and his intern struggle to keep their sanity as an ancient unknowable presence infects everything with a plague of unrelenting horror. CHAPLAIN is a surreal and terrifying debut graphic novel co-written by creators Brad and Rev. Wesley Sun. In advance of its release July 7, 2026 on Storm King Comics, look for Brad and Rev Wesley Sun to embark on a signing tour around Chicago beginning on Saturday, June 27.
The Chicagoland tour begins Saturday, June 27 with a signing at Goblin Market. The brothers will then follow with signings at the Storm King Comic’s booth at the ALA (American Library Association) conference Sunday, June 28 (where they are offering an exclusive ALA ashcan), Hyde Park’s First Aid Comics on Wednesday, July 1, Restoried Bookshop in Albany Park Thursday, July 2and Northside’s Challengers Comics + Conversation on Friday, July 3. At each stop, fans will have the opportunity to meet Brad and Rev. Wesley Sun and have them personally sign their copies of the book.
In the book, illustrated by acclaimed artist Raúlo Cáceres, colored by Ryan Winn and lettered by Marshall Dillon, an aging and increasingly weary chaplain discovers an ancient, unknowable monster stalking his hospital, forcing him to confront the existential terror of his own mortality. Along with his energetic young protégé, he is pushed to the brink of insanity as his convictions and very grasp on reality begin to unravel.
Brad Sun has been writing and illustrating comics for over a decade, including the graphic novels Chinatown and Monkey Fist, co-authored with his brother Wesley. Together, they have self-published their work as Sun Bros Studios. In addition to his work as a comic author and artist, Brad is also a painter and musician. He currently resides in Boston, MA.
Wesley Sun has been working as a chaplain in hospitals, jails, and homeless shelters for the past 20 years. More recently, he became a Certified Educator with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education and now trains chaplain interns at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Chicago, where he lives. In addition to his collaborations with Brad, Wesley has also contributed to several comic anthologies, including the memoir horror collection Then It Was Dark and the apocalyptic dark humor series Cthulhu is Hard to Spell.
Raúlo Cáceres is a Spanish comic artist. He studied Fine Arts in Sevilla and Granada, and has worked with many acclaimed European publishers including Megamultimedia, Dólmen, Berenice, EDT, and Tabou Editions. In Spain, he is best known for his work on the horror comics Elizabeth Bathory, Morbid Tales, and a reworking of de Sade’s Justine and Juliette from Eros Comix. Globally, he is also known for his illustration for series such as Gravel, Crécy, Captain Swing and the Electrical Pirates of Cindery Island, Crossed, and Extinction Parade with Max Brooks from Avatar Press.
