TCAF 2026: Comics Preservation

Comics Preservation

Panelists included Emily Yoshimoto, Mara Thacker, and Megan Halsband, with Amie Wright serving as moderator. The discussion focused on how libraries preserve comics and comic-related materials.

Topics included the preservation of traditional print comics, digital comics, comics from Southeast Asia—with a particular emphasis on Indian comics—and original comic art. Emily Yoshimoto shared her personal experience preserving her father’s original artwork. As the daughter of a manga artist who is still actively creating comics, she documented her preservation efforts by creating a manga about the process itself. She noted that many children of manga artists are facing similar challenges as they work to preserve their parents’ artistic legacies.

The panel also explored the importance of partnerships and collaborations between library departments, as well as working with outside organizations to support preservation efforts. Sustaining and expanding comic collections for future generations was a recurring theme throughout the discussion.
