Blue Moon Celebrates the U.S. Semiquincentennial with Donnie Page’s U.S. Flag

[Barbourville, KY] — [June 10, 2026] — Blue Moon Comics Group proudly announces the release of Donnie Page’s U.S. Flag Semiquincentennial Special #1. The issue includes a brand-new, U.S. Flag story plus reprints of the two U.S. Flagadventures from Diversions #4 and Diversions #21.

The issue kicks off with the new, ten-page “Out of the Ashes, a Hero Rises” plotted and illustrated by Dana Black with script and colors by Blue Moon Publisher Lloyd Smith. The story is an origin/overview of U.S. Flag’s super-heroic career as told by the person who knew him best, his former sidekick, Liberty Lad. “When I told Dana that I wanted to do a U.S. Flag Special Edition, he asked me to hold off until he’d completed a new story idea he had for the character,” said Smith. “Dana always has great ideas, and he certainly came up with something extra-special both story and art-wise. He also asked me to collaborate as both scripter and colorist. Of course, I was honored.”

The second story is a reprint of Dana’s black and white solo U.S. Flag tour de force, “Operation: Classified!” This story focuses on U.S. Flag’s invasion of a Nazi-run experiment in which a crazed scientist creates Universal and Lovecraft-inspired monsters. Dana presents the story as a newsreel narrated, again, by Flag’s partner Liberty Lad. It’s full of action and wonderful character moments.

The final story of the issue is actually the very first U.S. Flagadventure, “The Madman and the Monster” co-plotted by Smith and Flag’s creator Donnie Page. Donnie illustrated the storywhile inker John Gentil worked miracles inking the story over photographs (not scans) Donnie had taken of the original art. Smith scripted and colored it. In true Donnie Page style, Flagtakes on Hitler, himself, along with another mad Nazi scientist who is turned into a hulking brute.

U.S. Flag Semiquincentennial Special #1 also features a pair of pin-ups by artists JW Erwin and Quinton Bedwell in its 44 pages.

U.S. Flag Semiquincentennial Special #1 is scheduled for digital format release via DriveThruComics and GlobalComix on June 17, 2026. The comic will be released in print through the Blue Moon Comics Ko-fi Shop in late July/early August and throughIndyPlanet in late 2026.
