| Summit Comics, the creator-owned indie publisher behind the breakout shared superhero universe launched with Summit: Pinnacle #1, has launched a Kickstarter campaign for The Twin Flames #1 — the first solo title starring the Summit Universe’s fan-favorite power couple.
Written by Summit Comics Group Editor J. Michael Miller (Kid Cretaceous, The Healer’s Blade) with art by Rom Silva, The Twin Flames#1 follows Soraya and Nico, two heroes who received nearly identical fire-based powers simultaneously from a mysterious source. The series picks up directly from the events of Summit: Pinnacle #1, where the pair made their explosive debut on A-Day, the cataclysmic event that serves as the launching point for the Summit Universe.
“I’m going to ask a dumb question. Have you seen The Notebook? Most people have. It’s a story about a husband reading to his wife their real life love story to help her remember him. Romance and superheroes have been at my core for longer than I can remember,” Miller says of the series.
He adds, “Whether it was watching all of the superhero Saturday morning cartoons, finding my first comic shop in middle school, or hiding my heroic motivations behind a mask. Well, this is what I want my wife to read to me when my mind starts to slip. I know that The Twin Flames could help reignite my love and passion beyond the grave.”
The issue also includes two backup shorts — the first written by Eisner-nominated Wonder Woman writer Stephanie Williams. Williams’ short is being illustrated by Jimenez while writer Nate Schachter and artist Ignacio Di Meglio are teaming on the second story.
“Last fall, I stepped away from my table at Boise Comic Arts Festival to attend a panel with Stephanie Williams and two other publishers,” Miller says. “I’m beyond excited we were able to talk about Summit Comics afterward and that I was able to invite her to join this incredible cast of talent and craft such an emotionally resonant and powerful story after the main fanfare ends.”
The Kickstarter campaign offers backers the opportunity to support the book’s print run, with rewards including covers from Marcus Jimenez (Killstrike), Brian Wolf (The Go-To Guys), and more. The campaign runs through now through early July.
