Poppa Is Back for Chapter 2 (of 5)

“Poppa” is a heartfelt hero’s tale that sits in the sweet spot between a Silver Age classic and a modern superhero story.

Originally envisioned as a 110-page graphic novel from Philbo Publishing, Poppa has evolved into a five-issue miniseries. In an effort to complete the book quickly so it could be shared with the creator’s father during his lifetime, each chapter was assigned to a different interior artist. Although the project was not finished in time for him to see it completed, his influence and memory remain central to the story and its creation.

Each chapter features a different talented interior artist.

Bruce Rogers is a 75-year-old Vietnam veteran living in his twilight years with his son Craig, daughter-in-law, and his 12-year-old granddaughter, Melody. Bruce and Craig share a long-strained and unresolved relationship, while Bruce and Melody have developed a deep and meaningful bond that never formed between father and son.

When a threat emerges against the family, Bruce is forced to confront a question he believed his fighting days were behind him: what is he willing to do to protect the people he loves?

In a world full of villains, one man stands alone, willing to become the hero once more, no matter the cost.

Poppa is written and created by Phillip Russert. The story serves as a tribute to the toughest man he has ever known, his father, who faced a courageous battle with stage four cancer and multiple tumors. He had hoped to one day hold the completed graphic novel in his hands, but he passed away before that dream could be realized.

This project exists as a way of honoring that legacy.

Supporters are invited to help bring this book to life. Backing the campaign not only provides access to a powerful, emotional story with exceptional artwork, but also helps complete a deeply personal tribute.

Bruce Rogers has been hiding a secret his entire life that has now been exposed. When his granddaughter Melody is placed in danger, Bruce is forced into a brutal choice: protect his secret or save his family.

Blackmailed by mafia boss Joseph Asaro and his enforcer Tommy “Trigger” Mancini, Bruce must find a way to rescue Melody without revealing the truth he has spent decades burying.

What follows is a story of survival, sacrifice, and one man’s final stand to protect his family at any cost.
