Right now, we are into Children’s Book Week, running May 5ththrough the 11th. It inspires young readers to embrace the magic of storytelling and holds the title of the nation’s longest-running literacy initiative. When I was growing up, comic books were something that was discouraged by teachers, who gave the dumbest reasons why they were bad for you. Back then, libraries didn’t carry anything on comic books. Back then, no one got comics, which got me into reading and, from there, books. Now, many years later, I am a voracious reader of everything—and, really, I owe it all to reading comic books as a kid.
I remember a time when there were hardly any kid’s comics or all-ages comics. Heck, I remember a time when I wouldn’t give a kind of Spider-Man comic because it wasn’t exactly age-appropriate. Now, there are so many comics for all ages, especially duck comics. Yeah, you heard me: duck comics.
For a while now, I’ve been wanting to do something about ducks. Seriously, have you seen how many duck-centric comics there have been in the last couple of years? Have you ever seen so many duck-themed comics? How big are duck comics? Enough that there have been variant covers, like Darkwing Duck Justice Ducks #1. That’s nothing to quack about! And that’s a spin-off of the regular Darkwing Duck. Duck spin-offs? Sufferin’ succotash! Heck, Darkwing Duck is getting a second trade this summer!

Here’s one publisher who knew ducks have never been something to quack about—Fantagraphics Books. It’s never-ending duck season, and they have the biggest collection of duck-themed trades. Go take a gander! There are the completeCarl Barks and Don Rosa libraries. And every flock of Donald’s family is in those collections.
