THIS MONTH IS THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF EVIL ERNIE #1!
25 years ago, a young filmmaker named Brian Pulido wanted to tell the tale of a psychotic, murderous undead teenager on a truly epic scale. As it turned out, comics provided the best medium to achieve this dream. December 1991 marked the release of Evil Ernie #1 under Malibu Comics’ Eternity imprint and it took the indie comics scene by storm!
25 years later, the original Evil Ernie: Youth Gone Wild series remains a cult horror classic. But it wasn’t until a pivotal partnership made a couple of years prior that Evil Ernie became a fully realized concept…
FROM CONCEPT TO REALITY WITH ERIC MACHE
Originally, Pulido wanted to make his mark on the horror scene with a feature film, but doing Evil Ernie on the big screen would have required an unrealistic budget in those days. Pulido met artist and photographer Eric Mache in the underground cult horror scene of New York City in 1989. Through their shared passion of horror, the concept of Evil Ernie came to life!
Recently, Jimmy Calabrese of Coffin Comics had the opportunity chat with Eric Mache about the historical beginnings of Evil Ernie. Click here to read the full interview!
