Spirited bidding  in standing room only crowd that went beyond 11:00 Saturday night  set a new Heroes Con Art Auction Record.
Adams Hughes, Zantanna painting and Mark Brooks, Black Cat  sold for eight thousand dollar each.
Auctioneer Allison Sohn told the enthusiastic crowd this is the first painting Hughes has done in five years.
J.Scott Campbell’s Black Widow sold for four thousand dollars.
Cat Staggs, Black Cat and Spider-Man fetched an impressive fifteen hundred dollars earlier in the evening.
An emotional Hughes took to the stage after the sale of the painting and thanked the crowd for their support of the Zantanna piece that he had finished Saturday afternoon. Hughes told  the cheering attendees he considers Shelton Drum’s Heroes Con the best convention in the country and pledged to return every year.
Fan favorite Hughes clad in a smoking jacket also talked about how the support of the original art collectors in the Westin Ballroom was vital to the continued existence of the annual Charlotte event allowing artists to continue to make the June journey to Charlotte every year. Proceeds from the art auction are used to defray the cost of the three day event.
