Aron Warner

Aron Warner stated “I came up with Pariah after reading an article about in vitro genetic manipulation. We take medications every day without fully understanding how they work. It’s kind of terrifying if you think about it. In Pariah, kids grow up with incredible intelligence as a side effect of modern ‘cures.’ The problem is that they’re so smart, they question everything – even things we hold as sacred. All of our laws, morals, and even physical constraints will be torn apart and re-built. These kids are adrift in every way, equipped with mental tools we can’t even imagine. On top of all of that, they’re persecuted, feared and hated. As if being a teenager didn’t suck enough” He was nice enough to stop by First Comics News to explain more about the project to our readers.

First Comics News: Who is Brent Marks and what made him a Pariah?

Aron Warner: Brent is sort of the “everyman” of the Pariahs. He kind of ends up representing the more moderate side of the kids. He became a Pariah because a genetic disease was cured while he was still in his mom’s belly. Fixing the disease came with the side effect of making him and all the other Pariah’s really, really smart.

1st: Who is Franklin Hyde and what does he want?

Aron: Hyde is that kid you know and hate because you think he was born with every possible advantage. He’s the politician of the group – the back room deal maker. Deep down, he’s a just a messed up kid and this his way of coping.

1st:Franklin wants the other Pariah to trust him, is he trust worth?

Aron: He is – at least from his point of view he’s doing the right thing. He just doesn’t know how badly he’s being manipulated.

1st: What about his parents, are the Pariah safe around them?

Aron: The Pariah’s aren’t really safe around anyone – not even each other…

1st: Who is Robert Maudsley and what does he want to do with his powers?

Aron: Maudsley is one messed up guy. What he wants is to control people. Why? You’ll find out….

1st: Who is Lila Ellerman and how does she fit in with the group?

Aron: Lila is the kick ass leader of the group. She’s trying to balance force and diplomacy, but if she had it her way, she’d fight every time.

1st: Is our little group sort of like a super smart version of the breakfast club?

Aron: Kind of a combo of things – Lord of the Flies meets Breakfast Club meets Revenge of the Nerds….

1st: What makes the government afraid of the Pariah?

Aron: The Pariah’s abilities are unknown and seemingly endless. Of course everyone’s scared to death of what they don’t understand.

1st: How did the government find out about them?

Aron: As soon as the first kids started showing signs of ridiculous intelligence the word got out.

1st: Did the government frame them for the Marinus Lab explosion, or just take advantage of the situation?

Aron: Patience….all will be made clear

1st: What is the governments plan if they capture them?

Aron: Some people just want them dead, others want to use them. No one really cares about them as people.

1st: The series is running 12 issues, at the conclusion of the first 12 issues, will the story be over or will there be another mini-series?

Aron: You’ll see where issue 12 ends that there are at least two very distinct paths to follow. I’d really like to keep going because there’s a ton of story to tell.

1st: Any plans to pitch Pariah as a movie or TV series after the mini-series is finished?

Aron: Could be – at this point I just want to concentrate on making a great comic book.

1st: What makes Pariah so cool no true comic book fan should miss it?

Aron: Every innovation the Pariah’s come up with is all on the edge of being possible now. Pariah’s a window to the near future – to the amazing possibilities that are really close to being real. Plus it’s about us at our best and our worst. I’m incredibly proud of the books and hope everyone likes them as much as I do.
