As all True Believers know, 2011 marks the  Silver Anniversary of the Fantastic Four. (And yes, I know the Fantastic Four...

As all True Believers know, 2011 marks the  Silver Anniversary of the Fantastic Four. (And yes, I know the Fantastic Four comic itself has been suspended , and replaced with the new “FF” comic–but we all know it’s  got to be temporary, right?)  Anyway,  the upcoming anniversary  made me wonder about the newsstands and candy stores back in August 1961–namely what other Kirby covers would one have seen back then, alongside the unheralded  Fantastic Four #1 ? Well, for starters…

Amazing Adventures #6 with Sserpo!

Journey Into Mystery #73 with the Spider!

Strange Tales #90 with Orrgo!

Tales of Suspense #23 with the Creature from the Black Bog!

And finally, Tales to Astonish #25 with another Creature–this one’s  from Krograrr!

Now be honest: faced with such a dazzling array of spellbinding covers, which one of comics would you have spent your hard-earned dime on?
