Here, in no particular order, are some other eye-catching covers from Archie Comics’ Sonic the Hedgehog series–these covers just missed making my top ten list. Special thanks to commentators Sonictoast and Anthony Rausch for their suggestions!
A taunting Sally takes center stage on the cover of Sonic #89, art by Patrick Spaziante and Harvo Mercadoocasio.
I get teary-eyed whenever I see covers featuring — well, tears. #99 is by Spaz and Harvo; #155 by Sanford Greene.
Tails struts his stuff on this cover by Dave Manak and Jon D’Agostino, Sonic #14. And did you notice the corner box?
The cover of Sonic #1 (Manak) boasts a tried-and-true superhero cover motif: our heroes surrounded by oodles of villains. Hey, it holds its own next to Jack Kirby’s Avengers #24 (from 1966), don’t you think?
I admit I didn’t think of this cover at all…but because Sonictoast asked so nicely, here’s the terrifying yet glorious Knuckles the Echidna #7 (Spaz, Manny Galan, and Ken Penders):
But really, is there anything more dramatic than a close-up? How about two? Can’t you just feel the sinewy intensity here (#46, Spaz and Harvo)?
And speaking of close-ups, nothing tops Sonic #150 by Spaz. The. Ultimate. Sonic. Cover. Ever. Well, so far anyway–at 200-plus issues and counting, Sonic’s still going strong!
Okay, so I know there’s a whole lot of other equally beautiful, thrilling Sonic covers that deserve attention–not to mention the covers of assorted Sonic specials, mini-series, spin-offs, etc. Well, Sonic month may be officially over on September 1st but that won’t stop us from trotting out our favorite Sonic covers every now and again. Which of your favorite covers do you want to see in our next Sonic Age Serenade? Let us know!
